Saturday Challenge Results

by Nif on July 26, 2009

If you follow SM on Twitter, you know that I issued the Saturday Challenge yesterday. It challenged you to do three things: 1-Do something just for you, 2-perform a random act of kindness, and 3-do something you’ve never done before.

I wanted to share with you what I did this weekend and how I met the challenge.

1 – Do something just for you. Early Saturday morning, I went for a 5-mile run through my neighborhood. I love  exercising first thing in the morning, especially a run through the neighborhood when the squirrels are birds are out. I use my NikePlus to keep up with distance, pace, and time, and I listen to a playlist I created called “Nif’s playlist” that is filled with songs that motivate me to keep going, even up the hills! If you’re not familiar with NikePlus (Nike+), it is a two-part device.  One part is a chip that goes in your shoe, and the other part is a chip that attaches to your iPod. The two parts “talk” to each other and records your distance, time, and pace. As an extra feature, you can lug your chip into your computer and upload the information to Nikeplus.com where it will chart it all for you. Pretty cool stuff!

2 – Perform a random act of kindness. While on my run, when I passed houses with newspapers delivered to their yards, I picked up the papers and put them on the front porches of those houses. What a nice surprise to open the front door and find the paper right there. I hope there were some people who felt very special having their paper delivered to their doorstep.

3 – Do something you’ve never done before. Well, I didn’t get to this one until today, and our family went to the local state park where we hiked, visited the petting farm, and the wildlife rehabilitation center. I had only hiked once before to the falls (with little rain, it was more like a trickle than falls!), and I had never been to the wildlife center or the petting farm. At the petting farm, we got to feed goats and sheep, pet a couple of ponies, and view roosters, pigs, and peacocks close up. The wildlife rehabilitation center was really neat, too. The center takes in animals that need medical assistance as well as serving as an educational center. We got to several different animals and learn about their habitats. The day ended with the kids taking a quick dip in the lake.

I hope your weekend was filled with adventures that create wonderful memories. Please share how you did with the challenge!

Love,

Nif
