Be Empowered ~ Be Inspired ~ Be Authentic

I can’t take credit for the blog post title. Those words belong to Paula Owens.

PAULA OWENS ~ THE POWER OF 4

Paula is a nationally known expert on health & fitness and a Master of Holistic Nutrition who believes that wellness comes from a balanced body, mind and spirit. Her new book, The Power of 4, walks the reader through four aspects of healthy living:  nutrition, lifestyle, physical exercise and supplements.

I recently had the opportunity to ask Paula some questions… here’s what she said…

SM: How did you get into the health & fitness industry?

I started out in the health and fitness industry over 25 years ago as an aerobics instructor. This was back in the Jane Fonda days. My passion for nutrition, health and wellness evolved from there and continues to do so. Information doubles every few months. Research and education is never ending and an ongoing process.

SM: Have you always been fit & healthy?

My health and fitness has evolved over the years. I have always been healthy and active. I grew up in a home where we were fed balanced meals that were made from whole foods. That set up a wonderful foundation that helped me create a healthy relationship with food.

SM: Did you play sports when you were younger?

No organized sports, although very active as a child.

SM: Do you have any hobbies/activities in which you participate that are not health- & fitness-related?

I love Rottweilers. I volunteer with the Rottweiler Rescue, although I no longer foster abused, abandoned or neglected Rotties, helping animals in need is a passion of mine. I also enjoy interior design and reading.

SM: What inspired you to write a book?

The Power of 4 came about from seminars I was teaching on the four powers: nutrition, lifestyle, exercise and supplements. The book evolved from my notes for those seminars.

SM: Are you a mother?

I am the mom of an 8 year old male Rottweiler named Teddy Bear. No human children.

SM: What was your mother like? What were the positive lessons that you learned from her?

My mother is a hard working woman who raised 6 children. I respect her for overcoming many challenges in her life. At 78 years of age, she still continues to teach piano with a waiting list for students to get in. I admire her for instilling within me the four “Ds” – determination, dedication, drive and desire. With those, one can achieve anything.

SM: Based on your professional education & credentials at the www.PaulaOwens.com website, it appears that you are a life-long learner. What do you plan to learn next?

I am currently studying to become a Clinical Board Certified Nutritionist.

SM: If you weren’t in the health & fitness industry, what would you be doing?

Possibly accounting or operations management. I also have a degree in accounting and owned and operated the internal operations of a construction company for 11 years.

SM: What inspires you?

God. People who are kind, authentic, have a strong character base and operate out of integrity. Nature, peace and love inspire me. Many things…
